Should you update this plugin today?
Before any update, the advice is the same: read the changelog, then read the support forum for people it broke. Update Forecast does both for any plugin on WordPress.org and tells you what it found.
Try woocommerce, contact-form-7, wordfence or elementor, or check every plugin on a site before update day.
Five forecasts, clear to stormy
Each verdict links to the topics and the changelog lines behind it.
Update now
The release fixes a security issue and nobody reports it seriously breaking sites.
Safe to update
Out for three days or more, and the forum reports at most one minor problem with it.
Wait a few days
Too new to judge, one serious report worth reading first, or several minor ones.
Test on staging first
A breaking change is announced, or a security fix is reported to break things.
Hold
Several people report the site going down or checkout, forms or login breaking, or one does among three or more problems.
How it decides
It reads what a careful maintainer would read before updating, in the same order.
The changelog
The entry for the current version. Does it fix a security issue? Announce a breaking change, a raised PHP minimum or something to do after updating? Or only link to a release post elsewhere?
The support forum
Every topic opened since the release, up to 30. Did the update break something? Is the site down with a fatal error, a white screen or a 500? Is checkout, a form or login broken?
The verdict
Fixed thresholds turn those answers into one of five verdicts, and the page lists the topics and changelog lines behind it, so you can check the reading yourself.
It is a reading of what people report, not a test of your site: keep backups, and update stores and client sites on staging first.
Questions
- Which plugins can it check?
- Any plugin in the WordPress.org directory. Premium plugins sold elsewhere have no public changelog or support forum there, so it cannot read them.
- Does “Safe to update” mean my site will not break?
- No. It reads what people report, not your site. A quiet forum is not proof of safety, a small plugin has few topics, and the feed only holds the newest ones. Keep backups, and update stores and client sites on a staging copy first.
- Who reads the forum topics?
- With a TypeSafe key, Jev reads the changelog and every topic, answering typed yes-or-no questions with probabilities. Without one, keyword rules answer the same questions. Each forecast says which one read it.
- Can I check every plugin on a site at once?
- Yes. Paste up to 10 slugs on the Many plugins page and each gets the same reading. There is also a JSON endpoint: /api/forecast?plugin=woocommerce.
- Does it cost anything or keep my data?
- It is free and needs no account. It reads public WordPress.org data and stores nothing about what you check.
